Today, UPSHOT announced that former WNBA standout Murriel Page has joined the League as an investor, bringing her experience as a player and longtime connection to women’s basketball to the ownership group as the league builds towards the 2027 season.

Page’s investment further strengthens the basketball expertise within UPSHOT, bringing decades of knowledge of the women’s game directly into the room where decisions are being made about the league’s growth and future.

“Murriel brings a depth of basketball knowledge that will make UPSHOT stronger as we grow,” said Andy Kaufmann, UPSHOT Co-Founder and CEO of Zawyer Sports & Entertainment. “We’re thrilled to have her experience and voice helping shape the future of the league.”

Page played 11 seasons in the WNBA after being selected third overall by the Washington Mystics in the 1998 WNBA Draft. A standout at the University of Florida, she was a two-time SEC Player of the Year and became the first women’s basketball player in program history to have her jersey retired. Page went on to play for the Mystics and Los Angeles Sparks before transitioning into coaching, with stints at Florida, Central Michigan, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, and Miami. She currently serves as an assistant coach at LSU under Kim Mulkey.

UPSHOT completed its inaugural season in August, with the Charlotte Crown earning the league’s first championship following a season of play across Charlotte, Greensboro, Jacksonville, and Savannah. Planning for the 2027 season is underway, with new teams in Baltimore and Nashville joining the league and additional expansion markets in development.

The league was created to expand the number of high-level professional opportunities in women’s basketball in the United States — a mission that continues to guide UPSHOT as it enters its second season.
